Dear Parents and Carers
A warm welcome to 2023 to all of our students and families. The start to the year has been excellent. I would like to particularly thank families for their efforts in ensuring that students have arrived in full school uniform and prepared for learning. We are delighted by high levels of attendance and engagement across the school. The Department for Children, Education and Young People have launched a campaign, ‘Every School Day Matters’, to promote consistent attendance at school. We are committed to supporting families to support their children to attend school. Please contact us if we can help in any way.
We have commenced our new timetable with classes starting at 8.50am and the day consisting of longer learning blocks. We will be seeking feedback from staff, students and families about their experience of the change in coming weeks.
We welcome several new staff to the school in 2023. Jason Thomas will take up the role of School Psychologist, replacing Mel De Clouet whom we thank for her dedication to the students and school community. Dana Lester is undertaking an internship in 5/6 Curtin and we welcome Elizabeth Webber to a new role in the school, as the teacher of Prep/1W.
Dani a’Campo is on leave for all of 2023 and Terence Johnston is on long service leave in Term 1. Kim Barker has taken up a position as Acting School Business Manager (SBM) at Summerdale Primary School until the end of second term, Lucy Powell commenced the year as Acting SBM and a process is currently underway to fill the position for the duration of Kim’s absence. We wish all of these staff well.
Learn to swim programs are currently underway for our primary sector.
Work is due to commence in March to upgrade our Year 2/3 classrooms. A big thank you to Mrs Maconachie, Mrs Fitzallen, non-teaching staff, students and families who have supported the move to temporary classrooms and ensured that students continue to learn in a rich and inviting environment.
NAPLAN assessments will occur for Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 students between March 15-27. We will be providing information about session times to families in coming weeks. Information about NAPLAN can be found at https://www.nap.edu.au/naplan NAPLAN. We will be working with our students to prepare them to undertake these assessments so they can do so with familiarity and confidence. There is a public demonstration practice site available if families wish to utilise it to support student preparation. https://www.nap.edu.au/naplan/public-demonstration-siteemonstration site
Our partnerships with families are valued and vital, please contact us at any time to discuss your child’s learning, progress or wellbeing
Kind regards
Mike
Look out London here we come!!
Over the school holidays one of our Grade 10 students of 2022, Riley Troy, was lucky enough to be invited to fly to London and participate in a gaming championship – the Apex Legend Global Gaming Series, a tournament featuring the best 120 players in the world. Riley was a member of a 3-person team called Dark Zero. What an opportunity! Riley flew out on Tuesday 31 January and headed to London where he and his teammates managed to battle the best in the business over a 5-day elimination contest. Riley and his team finished 13th overall - in the world!!! What an amazing achievement. We are so proud of you Riley.
A special thanks to Lucy Fox for her amazing support in helping Riley to organise his trip. Below is a report from Riley.

Dear Campbell Town District High School
For those who do not know me, my name is Riley Troy, I attended Campbell Town District High School from Kindergarten through to Grade 10. If you attended an assembly during 2022, it is most likely I was working the sound equipment backstage.
In January of 2023 I was very fortunate to be invited to travel to London to participate in an Esports event called ALGS (Apex Legends Global Series). It is the best teams across five regions world wide playing for a grand sum of $1,000,000.00. In total there were 40 teams playing, and after the elimination brackets, only 20 teams are left standing to then play in the finals.
Overall, my team and I placed 13th in the finals which is pretty astonishing to say the least. This is a reminder that anything is possible, no matter where you are from, a large city or a small country town. You can achieve your dreams if you are determined enough and have the PASSION!
I had a wonderful time doing what I love with the people I love the most, my teammates, coaches, managers and most importantly fans and family back home. Hopefully I can improve my game and improve our team as a whole and perhaps next time, I will be writing here again as a champion of the ALGS.
I would like to thank the wonderful Campbell Town school community; the Campbell Town School Community Bursary Committee, Parents & Friends Committee and Lucy Fox for helping me to achieve this dream.
Appreciatively
Riley J Troy
11/12 students have returned to school, enthusiastic and ready for a new chapter in their learning. All students have enrolled in face-to-face learning and we are pleased to be able to offer some new subjects on our scope. We have students enrolled in Biology 2 and Drama Foundations 2 for the first time at Campbell Town. Students are also involved in automotive and metal work courses as well as our usual smattering of Vocational Learning Certificates in Agriculture. We are also proud of the fact that we have 5 students enrolled in School-Based Apprenticeships. We would like to thank our community for their support in making these apprenticeships available.

VET AG - SAFETY IN AGRICULTURE
Stuart Beams, from Safe Farming Tasmania, met VET Agriculture students at a local farm this week to talk farm safety. He introduced students to legislation, the statistics and main causes of injury and fatalities. We looked at workshops, silos, augers & safety in the sheep yards. It was discussed about spotting the hazard, assessing the risk and applying risk management practices, which may involve wearing PPE or re-engineering equipment. Our thanks to Stuart and the farmer involved.
Clare Peltzer, from Primary Employers Tasmania, introduced students to the Agcard Safety Certificate and spoke about how it is recognised by agricultural employers. Under Clare’s watchful eyes students created a log in and started working through the required units. They even worked into their lunchtime to finish one section. Thank you Clare for travelling down to Campbell Town to spend an hour with our students.
