Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members,
Yesterday we held our school swimming carnival for 2023. A fantastic day was had by all, our students displayed the values of aspiration, respect and particularly courage. Many students took on events in which they were out of their comfort zone and displayed great resillience. We thank parents and families for their consistent support of school events, they are vital to our sense of community and student wellbeing.
We would like to invite all parents and guardians to a ‘Sharing of Learning’ and barbecue at the school on Tuesday March 28. Teachers will be in classrooms from 4.30pm-5.30pm, sharing examples of student learning and setting goals with students and their families. This will be followed by a community barbecue from 5.30pm-6.00pm. We hope that you will be able to attend. More information will be provided to parents/guardians closer to the date.
Our student leaders for 2023 have begun enthusiastically to support their peers and the school community. Thanks to Ruby A who represented us by presenting a poem at the War Animal Remembrance Day service on Sunday.
Key focus areas for us in 2023 are reading and student wellbeing. Our staff leadership team have worked closely with the lead literacy coach for Learning Services North to develop reading and teaching guidelines to ensure consistent, best practice from Kindergarten to Year 12. Staff are collecting and utilising student data to inform planning and interventions to extend and support all students. Our before school reading program will be commencing in coming weeks running from Monday-Thursday mornings. We strongly encourage students to be involved.
A reminder that Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 students are undertaking NAPLAN assessments from 15-27 March. We believe that students should be supported to prepare for these assessments. This preparation is an opportunity to learn skills in decoding and comprehension that will support them in assessments throughout their schooling. Students have been accessing the NAPLAN public demonstration site and teachers have been providing explicit instruction in how to answer questions. The site address is https://www.nap.edu.au/naplan/public-demonstration-site. We are aware that NAPLAN and other assessments can cause anxiety for some students. Please let us know if you have concerns.
We are delighted to have commenced our student lunches program in 2023. We will be providing lunches to a different class group on Mondays and Wednesdays on a rotational basis. This is a great opportunity for students to learn about balanced nutrition. The meals are being prepared by Year 7-12 students, providing them with skills in catering and hospitality.
Kind regards
Mike
Students within our school have been diagnosed with severe nut allergies, that could result in anaphylaxis if exposed, as a result our school is now a Nut Aware school. We ask that you are mindful of what you are putting in your child’s lunchboxes and try to avoid where possible packing items containing nuts

In the first two weeks students have covered course requirements, safety and exploring the equipment and machinery that they will be required to use in the manufacture of their projects.
In the third week we looked at the design process, and students have chosen a project for their minor project. In the coming weeks the class will be concentrating on refining their designs and drawing plans ready for production.
We are looking forward to seeing their final product.

This year we have 8 students enrolled in Biology 2, a new TASC subject for Campbell Town DHS. Students have been investigating differences between cells, learning about cell organelles and using microscopes. Last week they made their own microscopic slides using onion skin and cheek cells. We are working towards students making cell models using different mediums.

We are excited to report that we have started our school lunch program!! The aromas from the kitchen, the sound of chopping, cutting and shaking, busyness as the tables are set and food is prepared and the feel of everyone sitting and enjoying lunch together is very special.
This week we kicked off with the 11/12 class on Monday. They were served a tasty plate of Lasagne and green salad. The 4/5 class on Wednesday were served a tasting plate which included dip, cheese, carrot, cucumber, celery and muffins.
Lunches are served every Monday and Wednesday, please keep an eye on our Facebook page for regular updates for when your child’s class will be served.

On Friday 17 February, Secondary Student Leaders travelled to Launceston to attend an immersive GRIP Student Leadership Conference to better educate ourselves, improve our leadership skills and our sense of community.
It was an amazing opportunity to work with students from many other schools where we made friends, bonded, communicated and took part in interactive tasks designed to better our leadership skills as a team. There were several activities and seminars on subjects such as assemblies, understanding others and creating a positive school culture as well as us trying new interactive activities we will be implementing into our school.
We collectively learnt so much as a unit and are all looking forward to implementing these ideas across our school.
