Dear Parents, Guardians and Community Members,
Thank you to all who attended and supported our school cross country on Tuesday. We really appreciated the parents and families who braved the cold southerly wind to support our students. We were all proud of the determination and competitive spirit displayed by our students.
Thanks to Mrs Lowe for her outstanding work and organisation. I know that Mrs Lowe also appreciates the contributions of our student leaders who always support our events with enthusiasm. The P&F kept everyone well fed with soups, slices and hot drinks. The pumpkin soup was outstanding, as was the ‘mystery’ soup, which I believe might have been kangaroo tail, adding a uniquely Campbell Town flavour to the event.
Secondary Sport commenced this week with netball and hockey teams competing in Launceston on Wednesday. I was fortunate to be at the netball to support an outstanding win by our girls against Prospect. As always, our students represented us with a strong competitive spirit and excellent sportspersonship.
Our School Association met this week to provide approval and support for plans for our new agriculture facility. Having secured the support of the association, plans now move to DECYP facilities for costing and approval.
We were delighted to hold our first Mother’s Day stall last week. It was strongly supported, as was our Mother’s Day celebration in Kindergarten. Mrs Langiu had organised some fantastic activities for children to share with their mums. The students were even kind enough to include me in the nail painting activity.
Most people would be aware that Covid is still very present in our community, particularly as we move toward winter. Our office has a plentiful supply of RAT tests that can be collected by families at no cost. Current regulations do not specify a time period away from school for students if they contract Covid. The guidance is for students and staff to stay home whilst symptomatic and return as soon as they are symptom free.
A reminder that Parent Teacher interviews will be held for all grades this term. We value the partnership between school and home immensely and hope that all parents will be able to attend to discuss their child/children’s learning. Of course, these conversations do not have to wait until scheduled interviews, please feel free to contact us at any time.
Kind regards
Mike
This year our Primary and Secondary students have competed in their inter-school athletics carnivals, both were held at the St Leonards Athletics Centre. These students were selected to attend based off the results from our school athletics carnival held last year. Both groups of students participated in these carnivals in such an aspirational and courageous way, they should all be very proud of their efforts.
Following these carnivals some of our students were then selected to represent our associations at State Athletics Carnivals. Stella, Rupert, Thomas and Kaneeda represented the Northern Midlands Primary School Sports Association and Ollie and Ava represented the Northern High School Sports Association.
Overall placings at State Carnivals:
Rupert – 5th 100m, 1st relay
Thomas – 12th 100m, 1st relay
Stella – 5th 800m
Kaneeda – 2nd 1500m, 3rd relay
Ollie – 2nd Javelin
Ava – 4th 800m
Congratulations to all of the students who represented our school in Athletics last term at the Northern Midlands and Inter-High Carnivals and more recently at State Carnivals, you have set a high standard of sportsmanship and talent and represented our school outstandingly.

Four students had the opportunity to develop their wool handling skills under the guidance of Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) trainer, Petrisse Leckie, at Forton last week. The training involved two days of learning in a working shearing shed. Students learnt how to correctly pick up and throw fleeces, skills at identifying oddments such as belly wool, shanks and locks, and how to skirt a fleece. I am very proud of the effort demonstrated by Ella, Kirsty, Henry and Ajay. All of them worked hard, especially when given the opportunity to replace the working wool handlers for a full run (2 hours) on Wednesday. They all listened carefully to advice on how to improve their technique and this was demonstrated in the way fleeces landed on the table. They worked well as a team. Well done team.
The skills learnt on these days will go towards VET qualifications.
A big thank you goes to Petrisse Leckie, the AWI trainer; Locky West, who organised the days on behalf of AWI; The Gunn family for having us at Forton; Steven Rigby’s shearing team for their patience and support; Pete, the wool classer, who was positive about the improvement in the student’s skills and AWI who funded 50% of the cost of the days.
