Dear Parents, Guardians and Community Members
We have made a very pleasing start to the term; our students are highly engaged in their learning and our attendance rate has increased significantly.
I wanted to share some information we gained from recently released NAPLAN results. NAPLAN is an annual test that assesses the attainment of Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 students in five domains. These are: Numeracy, Reading, Writing, Spelling and Grammar/Punctuation. It also assesses growth for Years 5, 7 and 9 students compared to their previous NAPLAN assessment. We are currently able to compare the results of our students to those in similar schools and we will receive data later in the year that enables us to compare to state and national results.
We are still in the process of analysing the results to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement, but we are very pleased with the overall attainment and growth profile of the school. Across all grades, Campbell Town students achieved attainment scores above similar schools in 12 out of 20 domains. We achieved growth rates above similar schools in 9 out of 15 domains.
I wanted to share a highlight of the results from each year level.
- Year 3: Above similar schools in all domains. Grammar and Punctuation achievement was higher than the national mean score for any year since NAPLAN commenced.
- Year 5: Students achieved the highest growth rate in Reading of any Year 5 group at CTDHS since NAPLAN commenced.
- Year 7: Students achieved the highest growth rate in Grammar and Punctuation of any Year 7 group at CTDHS since NAPLAN commenced.
- Year 9: Above similar schools in all domains. All year 9 students demonstrated medium-high growth in both Reading and Spelling.
We are very proud of the committed approach our students took to the assessments and the results that they achieved. We have a highly dedicated staff, working collaboratively in teams to plan and deliver learning opportunities to students. I wish to thank the staff for their outstanding commitment and congratulate them on these results. I also wish to thank parents for your ongoing support of learning at home. We are highly motivated to focus on continuous improvement to deliver excellence in learning opportunities for our students.
Kind regards
Mike
The Grade 11/12 drama class have been exploring the art of Mime and at the end of Term 2 they shared their learning with our grade 2/3 classes. The art of mime was explained and the 2/3's were treated to a short skit which demonstrated some fundamental conventions underpinning the art of mime – exaggerated movement, breaking down an idea into simple and precise movements, use of body parts to portray ideas, the importance of facial expressions and how make-up is used to enhance performance. After the performance, students were divided into small groups and participated in a workshop, led by drama students, to further explore what they had seen in the performance.
Thank you to Mrs Sanders for helping in Miss Howard’s absence and to the Grade 2/3 classes for being such a great audience and participants in the workshops.

Are you making every school day count?
It’s Term 3 already – welcome back for another term!
As we move through the school year, sometimes regular school attendance can be challenging.
It’s important your child keeps up good attendance habits though.
Going to school every day means your child has every chance to learn and be around their friends and teachers. Every day adds up, to benefit your child now and in the future.
If you’re having trouble getting your child to school, please talk to us. We’ll listen to your situation and help in any way we can.
If you’re looking for tips on how to create better attendance habits, visit the Anything can happen website.
