Dear Parents, Guardians and Community Members
Rich learning experiences are continuing in our school as we progress through the term. A reminder that our student/parent/teacher conferences for Prep to Year 10 will be held on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday of next week. The link to make a booking is https://campbelltowndistricths.schoolzineplus.com/view-session/20
Our Year 11/12 students recently held a celebration of learning for parents. This event was very well attended by parents and we are grateful for their support. Building upon this, our Year 7-10 parent teacher conferences will include a celebration of secondary learning on Monday of next week. We send a warm invitation to all secondary parents to attend.
Student wellbeing is a strong focus at Campbell Town. Our students will be completing the annual Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey over the coming weeks. We use this information to identify priorities that are important to supporting student wellbeing and their engagement in learning.
There are numerous events for our students to participate in over the coming weeks. Our Year 2/3 students are very excited about their activity afternoon being held at the school this Thursday 14 September. This will involve a stay until 8.00pm filled with exciting games and activities.
We are entering a Year 7-9 team in the Write a Book in a Day Competition this year. Our team will work with our staff and outside consultants to prepare and then undertake a very long day next Thursday 21 September writing and illustrating a book to be entered in the competition. We see this as very important to developing aspiration and skills in writing.
We have a team of students participating in the Merino Wether Challenge on Wednesday 27 September. Our students have been learning about caring for the animals and handling them in different environments. We are excited about our participation in this event.
Our staff continue to work hard implementing DECYP reading priority. Teaching practice is being aligned across the school and multi-tiered support interventions are being implemented. Staff are currently undertaking collaborative inquiry cycles to support the implementation of our priorities.
We look forward to discussing student learning with you at our upcoming student/parent/teacher conferences. A reminder that students are welcome to attend and participate in these discussions.
Kind regards
Mike

P/1 Webber have been learning about whales. We learned that a blue whale's heart is about the size of a small car. We also learned that a blue whale can grow up to approximately 28 metres long, we measured this on our Tiger Turf and it was almost the same length! Here is some of our artwork.

Regular school attendance is vital to academic, social and emotional experiences at school. Our Secondary teaching team have been acknowledging those students who have a high attendance rate by hosting an attendance lucky draw in our Student Voice Assemblies. Students with attendance rates above 90% receive 1 entry into the draw, those with 100% receive 5. Our lucky winners receive a prize.

Last Wednesday, 6 September, Year 11/12 held their Celebration of Learning Evening in conjunction with Term 3’s student/parent/teacher conferences. It was fantastic to see an almost 100% turnout. I would personally like to thank parents for attending and thus supporting their child in their learning. I know each student really appreciated the opportunity to show and discuss, with their parents, the work that they have been doing. I would also like to thank teachers for their support of the night.

Spring has sprung and the Year 11/12 cohort got some much-needed vitamin D while completing their work on statistics as part of their Essential Mathematics Workplace course.
The Year 11/12 students have been collecting, displaying and analysing data. They have been investigating how data can be skewed in the media to mislead the public by checking graphs and data in newspapers and other media.
The students have found this topic engaging and have been surprised to see how much of our lives are affected by data and statistics.

We have 6 sheep at our school. These sheep are here for the Ag students to work with. The students are learning how to prepare the sheep for the AWI School Wether Challenge, 2023.
Many students across the school have interactions with the sheep. The Grade 5/6 class have been working hard at training our sheep, working each Wednesday afternoon with Mrs Bennett. The Secondary Ag class have also been hard at work, preparing the sheep for showing.
We have been responsible for ensuring that the sheep are fed Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. We are learning how to mix their food. We feed them grain and hay (the wind can make it a bit tricky when spreading out the hay!). We check their water on these days and tidy up the sticks around their pens for safety reasons.
We really enjoy our responsibilities around feeding the sheep.

In our Secondary sector we have been working on getting Tax File Numbers for students. With the help of community members Lucy, Josie and Pauline students who are in need of a TFN were able to apply through the school. Getting a TFN can be really daunting so it was awesome to have such knowledgeable people here to help guide us through the process. A special thanks to Lucy, Josie and Pauline for all your help and encouraging us to go through the process.
